The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) serves as a platform to educate and engage young people on climate change, sustainable development, and the United Nations system, with a particular focus on the UNFCCC processes and the annual UN Climate Change Conferences (COPs). Through this initiative, we seek to empower youth to actively participate in these processes by developing local level positions on climate change issues relevant to Sierra Leone and the region. These positions will be shared globally through the Global COY and YOUNGO inputs to the annual YOUNGO position paper shared at COPs.
The Center for Community Impact and Sustainability (CCIS) and partners are working towards ensuring that young people in Sierra Leone are involved in the global effort to increase youth voices in climate discussions by hosting the maiden LCOY in Sierra Leone.
