Lectica, an educational non-profit located in the United States, has a simple mission—supporting optimal development. According to Theo Dawson, Lectica’s founder, the kind of learning that supports optimal development involves real-world practice. She argues that when we repeatedly apply knowledge in real-world contexts, it becomes richly embedded in our neural networks. Because practice involves the whole person, what we learn in this way is enriched with social, sensory, affective, and kinesthetic connections.
