The Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) was a security-enhancing patch for the Linux kernel that implemented mandatory access control (MAC). Although the project is no longer active, it once served as a robust framework for securing administrative operations, file access, and system capabilities. Working even at the root level, LIDS offered granular controls over program-file interactions and utilized extended system capabilities to fortify both network and filesystem security. The system supported Linux kernel versions 2.6 and 2.4 and was licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It allowed for real-time security adjustments, process concealment, and network-based security alerts.
