Life Infusion

LIFE INFUSION is a project cofinanced by the European Commission through the LIFE Programme. This project is led by the EURECAT foundation and in tight collaboration with 7 remaining partners of the project’s transnational consortium (Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, IRTA, Aqualia, COGERSA, Ecoparc del Besòs, Detricon and AMIU) from 3 Estate Memebers (Belgium, Italy and Spain). The project seeks to improve the current treatment of wastewater from the anaerobic treatment of OFMSW, through a series of technological processes that are constructive and non-destructive of the organic load and nutrients of these waters contributing solutions related to circularity. The initiative will aim to demonstrate the environmental, technical and economic feasibility of recovering valuable resources from these wastewater such as biomethane, compost, bio-fertilizers and reclaimed water through biotechnological processes less energy consuming than current processes (thermophilic anaerobic membrane bioreactor coupled to nitrogen recovery and to reverse osmosis with regenerated membranes). The project foresees the implementation of this advanced technology in two pilot plants, one being the COGERSA plant in Gijón, Asturias and the other being the Ecoparc in Montcada i Reixac, Barcelona (AMB).
