Lifemark is independent seal of approval awarded to homes that achieve specific quality design standards that make the home adaptable, accessible and safe to live in for every member of the population no matter what their age, stage or ability. The Lifemark is used by architects, builders, developers and social housing providers who recognise the point of difference that the mark gives them in appealing to a broader and aging market, both now and for the future. What is The Need? By 2061 the 65yr+ age group will account for 27% of the population. It is estimated 50% of older people are currently living in homes that are not modified for their needs, the cost of modifying these homes has been shown to exceed $33m per year. Our safety record is alarming, with slips, trips and falls in the home one of the biggest contributors to ACC claims. The solution is simple - Home designs need to be incorporating the Lifemark design standards. The Lifemark is an independent seal of approval awarded to a home that has achieved specific design features that make it safe, accessible, and easy to live in – over a whole lifetime. It is the building industry’s equivalent to the heart foundation tick and is recognised by the market as a design solution to improve the future of NZ housing stock.
