"...Transferring tecnological innovations between the Automotive and Marine worlds..." Light Black Design was set up as an engineering company to transfer these technological innovations between the Automotive and Marine sectors, with particular expertise in advanced composites, materials technology and structural engineering. Our core business will provide total solutions for our customers for the integration of technology into their projects. The solutions will include the definition, provision and management of all areas of the technology concerned. These include overall concepts, providing design and analysis services and developing tools, specific testing and validation requirements for complete manufacturing supplier base solutions. Company founder Dan Primrose, for over 13 years worked within the design offices of McLaren Automotive, Red Bull F1 team, Caparo Vehicle Technologies and most recently Gordon Murray Design. Within all of these offices he was a key member of the teams responsible for the design and production of years lightweight, cost effective parts for a range of vehicles with production numbers from one-off prototype parts to 100,000 cars per year. Before starting at McLaren Automotive, in 1999, Dan worked at Pendennis Shipyard, as part of a team building high performance composite yachts. This was a job that started after gaining a BEng (Hons) in Yacht Design at Southampton. It was this role that that allowed Dan to move to the automotive world where McLaren were in the early stages of a project to design and build the first ever carbon fibre, production road car, the Mercedes McLaren SLR. So now, after 12 years of working in these amazing design offices, Light Black Design are in a position to offer all of the technological advances offered to the high volume and niche markets of the automotive world, to the Marine markets.
