About Light-G-Comp
Light-G-Comp (Lightweight, Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Designs and Production Methods for Upcycled Graphene Reinforced Hybrid Composites) responds to the urgent global call for decarbonisation driven by the adverse effects of global warming and rising greenhouse gas emissions. The project addresses the increasing demand for sustainable and lightweight composite structures that enhance fuel efficiency and reduce environmental impact through energy-efficient and circular manufacturing technologies. The core aim of Light-G-Comp is to transform conventional and non-recyclable waste materials into graphene-based structures. These are further used to develop recyclable, high-performance thermoplastic composites with tailored, multi-scale reinforcement architectures. The project promotes circularity by increasing the bio-based content of composites and providing lightweight, cost-effective, and functional material solutions for diverse applications. In particular, the consortium contributes to waste reduction efforts in the UAE by upcycling thermoset and thermoplastic waste streams into value-added graphene-based compounds. Light-G-Comp targets critical industrial sectors such as aerospace, automotive, and plastics.
