Link Child Foundation (LCF) is a non-governmental organisation that helps families in the slum areas around in Mbale, Uganda. LCF renders services to the communities and our work is aimed at underprivileged children, young mothers and families, with limited resources. We focus on sustainable development, and want to help people to get out of poverty - and give them opportunities!
The organisation is divided into two departments: education department; consisting of kindergarten/ nursery school, primary school and vocational training (this is where young mothers are given the opportunity to get educated as hairdressers or tailors). The second part is the social work department; this includes home visits to the children at the school, workshops and savings groups (VSLA - village saving and loan association). The saving groups helps parents to either improve or start businesses to create an income and to give them more knowledge that can bring them out of poverty. The savings groups are also used as a social group where members talk about their week, challenges and where they learn about health and hygiene, the importance of education for their children, domestic violence, private economy, HIV/AIDS etc.
