About 2Manage
Health & social care employees are critical to providing the care and compassion to meet clients’ needs. After 35+ years of advising leaders, as well as managing employees directly, I now design training courses using this experience plus best practices to provide pragmatic guidance for health & social care leaders, frontline workers and Board members. My name is Leon Steer, I am a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and have been an executive Director in health & social care for 25+ years, initially as an HR Director followed by 17 years as the Chief Executive of a portfolio of care homes, extra care housing schemes and Homecare services. During a 35+ years career in people management, I advised on innumerable poor performance and misconduct cases, some of which included representation from the largest trade unions in the UK. As well as providing advice, I chaired health & social care discipline and appeal hearings. Disappointingly, some of these cases resulted in summary dismissal plus referral to the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) and the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC). On occasions, some misconduct cases resulted in the police taking an employee into custody. Regrettably, in some cases, if the employee’s line manager had acted sooner, this action may not have been necessary.
