LipidEra Therapeutics is a seed-stage biotech founded in 2024 and based in Amsterdam. We are developing MI-883, a first-in-class, orally administered small molecule that targets the nuclear receptors CAR and PXR for the treatment of genetic and severe hypercholesterolemia. This dual-acting therapy delivers receptor-independent LDL-C reduction with unique pleiotropic effects on lipid metabolism, bile acid regulation, and hepatic inflammation—differentiating it from both marketed therapies and others in development.
While CAR and PXR have long been recognized as promising metabolic regulators, previous drug development efforts fell short—not due to the targets themselves, but because of poorly optimized molecules. MI-883 is the first compound to unlock this therapeutic potential through high target specificity, oral bioavailability, strong pharmacokinetics, and promising translational data in models of hypercholesterolemia.
Our lead indication is Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH), a rare and severe orphan disease that enables accelerated development pathways. We plan to expand into Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) as well as statin-intolerant and statin-resistant populations, addressing multi-billion-dollar global markets.
With preclinical proof of concept completed and IND-enabling studies underway, we are actively seeking VC support and pharma partnerships to join our existing investors, NLC Ventures and I&I Bio.
