Lipoedema UK is a national charitable organisation raising awareness of lipoedema. Lipoedema UK advocate for better treatment and new research to be funded for this much misunderstood yet common genetic condition mainly affecting women post-puberty.
Lipoedema is frequently misdiagnosed as obesity or lymphoedema and therefore wrongly treated (or not treated) for years, which can negatively affect people's family life, work life and overall quality of life.
The main symptom are excess, often painful, fat on the legs, hips and for some people the upper arms. Feet and hands are spared. The condition is often reported to worsen with the impact of hormonal changes such as pregnancy, menopause, etc.
