Fluid: Professional Growth for LGBTQ+ Students

Fluid is a registered student organization at Virginia Tech, with goals of reaching young LGBTQ+ professionals around the world. Our mission: Fluid works to redefine traditional professionalism and create a more inclusive, meaningful future of work for LGBTQ+ professionals. We help LGBTQ+ students navigate the professional world through content, conversations, and community. Our purpose: We want to understand and answer these questions. What is professionalism? What is authenticity? How does traditional professionalism and the corporate vision of these terms enable and inhibit our mission to create a truly inclusive workplace culture: one where we don't have to sacrifice our identities in the name of professionalism? What's waiting for us out in the professional world? What can we do to prepare ourselves for the world of work? What needs to change? We exist in celebration of the progress that our community, past and present, has made and are thrilled for the future of LGBTQ+ professional excellence. EVERYONE is welcome at Fluid, regardless of your racial, ethnic, gender, or sexual identity. Fluid prioritizes inclusion, and focuses on how those of us with multiple underrepresented identities exist in the world of work. Our bi-weekly Thursday evening meetings will be a mix of discussions, networking events, lectures, and workshops. We'll be joined by other students, faculty, staff, and queer & trans professionals from various industries.
