In 1934, our great grandfather formed a company called De Schaap B.V. in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Noticing the lack of quality throughout the marketplace, he dreamed of breaking free from the status quo. Visiting his store was never a simple trip, It was an experience where you would find yourself surrounded by alluring sights, pleasant smells and kind people.
After World War 2 our grandfather expanded the company. With his perseverance, the company had grown exponentially and had thousands of stores across Europe. De Schaap’s distinct approach to quality and service had laid the groundwork for its prosperity, and the company would continue to develop throughout the years. In the 1970’s the company vertically integrated by owning every part of the supply chain from factory to retail including a warehouse of approximately 300,000 sq. ft. At this time a subsidiary called “Orenta” was established to specialize in dried fruits and specific nuts. Despite such growth, the values of the family had never been shaken.
During the 1980’s De Schaap augmented its reach by forming Hocorn B.V., a company focused on the import and export of an even wider range of food products. In 1995, the family decided to sell De Schaap. To this day, Hocorn B.V. remains owned by the Henselijn family.
While our grandfather sold the company, the passion never faded. The soul of that little shop in Amsterdam lives on. Today, his grandson Sam Henselijn introduces you to L’Orenta. Starting in the United States, he is continuing his families’ tradition of selling fine products while providing an authentic European experience to his customers.
For over 80 years, our belief has always been that the customer defines our success. Since 1934, our family has placed significant value on quality. L’Orenta is no exception; When you visit our stores, you will be enveloped in warm aromas and exquisite tastes.
