About Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project

The Kenya Water Security and Climate Resilience Program (KWSCRP-1), is a World Bank International Development Association (IDA) supported program focusing on building water security and climate resilience for economic growth and improved social well-being. The project targets to (a) increase access to irrigation water for project beneficiaries and (b) enhance the institutional framework and strengthen capacity for water security and climate resilience in certain areas of the territory of the Recipient. Located in Busia and Siaya Counties in Western Kenya, the project will irrigate 4,043 hectares of land for the sustainable production of food and high-value crops This will benefit over 20,000 people (2,100 households) and create jobs for 8,000 people as hired labourers in the scheme. The success of the project is premised on the vision that, the beneficiary farmers will transition from the current rain-fed subsistence agriculture to commercial farming.
