Loxion Mobile Library
Introduction:
Language is the key that unlocks literacy, and literacy opens up possibilities for all kinds of new learning. Without sound language and literacy skills, children are likely to struggle throughout their school careers. On the other hand, when children become good readers and writers, their confidence and self-esteem grow, along with their appetite for learning. Put simply, children who read better learn better. In turn, children who make good progress in primary school are more likely to leave school with qualifications, pursue further education and ultimately find employment.
Loxion Library was established in 2020 by two youth from the Vrygrond community who saw the need to support young children with reading during Covid. It started with supporting children from a local pre-school and reading for children in the local playgrounds where they are normally just playing. It has grown from strength to strength where it support schoolchildren and young adults.
Currently we have 257 children in our database that we support with writing and reading skills.
Reading is a system issue. Systematic problems require systematic responses. Which means targeting all factors that hamper and stall the foundation of reading in young children and in the foundation phase.

Our vision is to ensure that every school going age child in informal settlement, townships and rural areas has access to a book and to reading every year. We engage with children in their spaces where they feel comfortable.
Mission:
We do this by promoting, encouraging and supporting children with reading skills and thus creating a culture of reading in our communities. We engage young children in educational games, writing and reading skills in fun and enjoyable ways.
