The LSU American Association of Petroleum Geologists / Society of Exploration Geophysicists (AAPG/SEG) Student Chapter is a professional student organization that supports geoscience students through academic, technical, and leadership development. As an officially recognized student chapter affiliated with two of the world’s leading geoscience societies, we offer our members access to national and global networks of professionals in geology, geophysics, and energy-related disciplines.
We create opportunities for students to participate in research presentations, technical workshops, field experiences, guest lectures, and community outreach events aimed at promoting Earth science awareness. Our chapter actively encourages involvement in national programs such as the Imperial Barrel Award, SEG EVOLVE, and other professional development initiatives that prepare students for future careers in energy, environmental, and applied geosciences.
Based at Louisiana State University and engaged across the Baton Rouge and greater Louisiana region, we serve as a bridge between academic study and professional practice. The chapter is committed to fostering collaboration, innovation, and scientific excellence while helping students build leadership skills, expand their technical knowledge, and connect with the broader geoscience community.
We welcome students from geology, geophysics, petroleum engineering, environmental science, and related fields who are eager to grow academically, professionally, and as part of a service-driven and forward-thinking community.
