LSyM (Laboratory of Simulation and Modeling) is an advanced research group of the IRTIC (Institute of Robotics, Information and Communication Technologies) in the Research Park of the University of Valencia, one of the largest research parks in Europe. Founded in 1998 with the development of simulators for the training of operators in the port and maritime sector and the prevention of occupational hazards. Since then, the group has developed solutions for different sectors and has an interdisciplinary team of people made up of computer engineers, physicists, mathematicians, designers, psychologists, instructors and experts in occupational safety and risks. The work carried out to date covers a large number of technologies ranging from interactive visualization with virtual actors to the integration of complete simulation systems, including the sensorization of devices and the implementation of projection systems.
Among the lines of research carried out within it, the following stand out:
- Integration of immersive simulators in real time: design of all the elements of a simulator, both hardware and software (dynamic models of objects and 3D scenarios).
- Development of e-learning platforms based on 3D simulation: simulation technologies based on WebGL and Unity-3D in order to implement 3D virtual environments executable from the browser on different computing platforms. Use of Moodle and other e-learning standards
- Advanced computing in graphics processing units (GPUs): Development of high-performance computing programs based on Cuda, OpenCL and shaders that run on GPU network architectures
- Real-time physical modeling: Development of simulation models and collaborative work models.
- Machine training systems to perform remote operations.
LSyM focuses on establishing collaboration frameworks with both public entities and private companies in order to promote the exchange of knowledge and bring research closer to the world.
