About Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management (ISAH)

The Institute of Sanitary Engineering and Waste Management (ISAH) is part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy at Leibniz Universität Hannover. As a scientific institution, ISAH has been involved in university teaching and research for many years. Since the department "Urban Water Management" became independent under Prof. Dr.-Ing. G. Kehr in 1939, the ISAH has been developed into an established research institute with a large staff and a wide range of expertise. In particular, the wealth of ideas of Prof. Dr.-Ing. C.-F. Seyfried, who took over the Institute management in 1970, and his open-mindedness towards everything new were prerequisites for a successful university professorship. From 1995 to 2017 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl-Heinz Rosenwinkel, as Director of the ISAH, shaped the research activities and teaching activities of the Institute for 22 years. In April 2017 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Köster took over the management of the ISAH in "the fourth generation". Together with his colleague Prof. Regina Nogueira (focused on environmental biotechnology) he develops the teaching and research profile of the ISAH in a national and international context.
