The Luppitt Landscape Partnership (LLP) is one of 34 projects across England selected by Defra for development funding during Round 2 of Landscape Recovery.
The LLP is taking a holistic approach to nurturing a resilient, self-reliant, ecologically-connected valley around the village of Luppitt, covering a 20 sq km sub-catchment of the River Otter in East Devon. The aim is to conserve and extend wildlife habitats, improve ecosystem function, address net zero objectives, and provide opportunities for education, training and community participation. These aims are being pursued in order to create better conditions for economically and environmentally sustainable farm businesses to continue and thrive.
The LLP is a new, landowner-led Community Interest Company with directors drawn from its farming and landowning membership, which comprises 55 holdings covering 1980 hectares in the Luppitt valley, including commercial farmers, non-farming larger landowners and smallholders.
The project development period began in spring 2024 and will run for 2 years. The LLP employs a project manager and administrator and a small team of specialists, funded through a development grant from Defra.
