THE STORY OF US
When a child is diagnosed with a life threatening or life altering diagnosis, it places significant strain on both the patient and family. Sound communication between the family and health workers is imperative to ensure adequate trust and confidence in the health service. In South Africa, the language diversity leads to many patients and families receiving counselling through an interpreter. Furthermore, paediatric patients are often excluded from counselling sessions.
Lusandi Medical Animations Studio NPC (“LMAS”) began through a joint passion for educating patients and families going through these heart-wrenching times in hospital. To create a uniquely South African product, LMAS translates the content into multiple South African languages and provides characters representative of all ethno-linguistic groups.
By providing education in a simple, child friendly manner, patients and all family members will be able to participate in the care of the child more actively. We believe this will lead to improved satisfaction in the health service, improved communication between families and all members of the health care team and alleviate hospital related trauma and anxiety.
Presently LMAS is focused on Paediatric Oncology content but aims to expand to all Paediatric conditions in future.
