Das Laboratorium für Werkstoff- und Fügetechnik (LWF) ist eine national und international anerkannte Forschungseinrichtung mit Schwerpunkt auf dem Gebiet der Fügetechnik, insbesondere mechanisches und thermisches Fügen, Kleben und Hybridfügen. Hinzu kommen Kennwertermittlung und Simulation.
Das Spektrum der Forschungs- und Entwicklungsarbeiten des LWF umfasst öffentlich geförderte grundlagen- sowie anwendungsorientierte Forschungsprojekte, bilaterale Industriekooperationen und Auftragsarbeiten. Besondere Bedeutung hat die Ausbildung des ingenieurwissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses und der Wissenstransfer in Industrie und Wissenschaft.
