About Maati Shilpik by Sanwini Ceramics

The journey of the handmade pottery art and the Artist. It's not just our hands, We pour our heart and art into it. "Handmade pottery is not just an object, it's a story. It's a story of the artist who created it, the clay that was used, and the fire that transformed it." - Unknown. Sanwini Ceramics got established out of an artistic heart that loved making pottery & soon preserving handmade pottery art became its mission. The mission took its place when the founder Ms. Harshita Banvir took her first pottery class. She was surprised by the story of her first pottery teacher Mr. Damodar Prajapati and made it her mission to get people back towards handmade pottery without using any molds. He is a potter that earns by working in a construction place as it is not easy to get a job in this field. His children are not interested in learning this art form for the same reason. They find it difficult to earn and find opportunities to learn as a local pottery artist. Mr. Damodar gracefully learned pottery from his ancestors. Now he is the last potter in his family. This fact is heartbreaking that the family tradition will fade away after Mr. Damodar. He is not the only one. Other local pottery artists have the same problem that the techniques they learned from their ancestors will be gone forever after them. Nowadays young generation with no background in pottery is seriously inclined towards Ceramic pottery art in which they learn the use of electric kiln and glazing technique, making new clay bodies & the young generation of Indian pottery artists are getting a part of this art. The local artists don’t know much about using the electric kiln or glazing. That is why Our Focus is on providing training and bridging the gap between the skill set of local and international pottery artists. Sanwini provides training to semi-skilled and non-skilled people.
