The mission of the Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation is to give a voice to women and babies in our community. We will do that by ensuring that women who are pregnant are able to receive the most adequate maternal care and support during and after pregnancy and/or infant loss and providing support to moms and families who have babies in the NICU.
We will implement the option to give access to doulas to qualified newly pregnant mothers in our community. A doula is a trained companion who is not a healthcare professional and who supports another individual through a significant health-related experience, such as childbirth, miscarriage, induced abortion or stillbirth, or infant loss. A doula not only provides great support for mom and baby, but they may also provide a sense of support to the client's partner, family, and friends.
The Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation plans to grow and engage in fund raising activities within the community. In the long range, our goal is to have the means to provide financial support to these moms and families. When a baby passes away or must stay in the NICU for a while, some parents are not prepared financially to deal with the extraneous costs associated with additional health care needs, loss of income due to the inability to work during the infants stay or just from mentally not being able to recover and go back to routine activities.
In time, we will create a community resource center that raises awareness to infant loss; that will provide mental health support by giving access to resources for therapists within the community and any kind of support needed for women or families who have dealt with fetal death and/or with babies in the NICU for extended stays from birth.
We will have a team of therapists who will assist in leading the support group established of moms who are still dealing with the loss of a baby and the post-partum effects of loss and pregnancy. As well as support groups for those who are ready to help others
