Macnil story begins with the union between an electronic engineer specialised in telecommunications (MAC, Mariarita Costanza) and a computer expert (NIL, Nicola Lavenuta), determined to use their expertise and know-how to create a technological hub in Southern Italy. This was possible also thanks to the partnership with some local companies, all specialised in their own field, which provide highly qualified products and services both on national and international market. Since from the beginning the founders had the mission to give birth, in a territory completely based on agriculture, to a Research Project in the IoT field, Automotive, Smart-City, Health and Electric Mobility, to prevent young students to leave their native land to find job opportunities up to their expectations abroad and promote the economic growth in the southern part of Italy. They started by developing global technologies in the field of messaging (SMS) and Automotive (Satellite Tracking and Fleet Management), signing important partnership with Telecom Italia, Poste Italiane and “The Politecnico di Bari”, of University in Bari. In 2014 Macnil Company was noticed by the First Italian IT Group, Zucchetti (Lodi), interested in investing in IoT field.
In 2016 Macnil acquired 100% of GTALARM of Varese, historical brand in the world of car and home burglar alarms. It works in Italy and abroad, manages 50,000 private customers and 5,000 companies, has 15 distributors throughout Europe. Among its partners also Car Manufacturers such as Ford, Peugeot, Citroën, Renault Iberia, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda and Insurance Companies as well. On March 15th, 2019, Macnil inaugurates in Gravina in Puglia the new HQ of 4.500 square meters, where there is “The Vivaio Digitale", an Innovation Lab of the Murgia-Valley project, ready to host Stat-Ups, Microenterprises and SMEs. Since 2022, Macnil and GT Alarm have fully returned to Puglia, after being acquired entirely by their founders.
