Approximately 10-12 new adult cancer drugs are released every year. For rare pediatric cancers, the number is 8 in 40 years. In other words, in the past four decades, over 400 new life-saving and sustaining opportunities have been created compared to just 8. Despite the known efficacy of targeted treatments, they simply do not exist for the vast majority of rare pediatric cancers.
At Maddie’s Promise, we believe the approach to researching these devastating rare diseases should be as aggressive as the diseases themselves — and, metaphorically, we will continue to shout on the side of the street with a homemade sign until positive change happens.
