Magicsimsim is a range of precious bejewelled art by Varun Kumar and Simi Biswas, both NIFT Delhi alumni, celebrating their lifelong love of the Indian legacy of mythology, folklore, and visual storytelling. The art is originally sketched in the studio and then exquisitely hand-embellished using actual jewellery components & gemstones on a pure silk base, using heritage hand embroidery techniques like Ari, Zardosi, Phulkari, Kashidakari etc.
The shimmering grandeur of the ancient Indian embroidery techniques like Aari & Zardozi truly blurs the boundary between ornamentation on fabric and inlay-worked jewellery. A laborious meticulous process which only the very skilled of hand artisans can aspire to create, Zardosi has been used for hundreds of years by Indian Royalty to commission wondrously exclusive tapestries for their beloved Deities or court hangings, most of which can be viewed presently in museums worldwide.
In an endeavour to promote the opulent narrative traditions of ancient India visually and texturally, Magicsimsim has partnered with the Khazana stores in the prestigious Taj Group of Hotels and are exclusively available in the landmark Taj properties in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, besides their own atelier studio. This unique brand's main aim is to give the art of hand embroidery a fresh lease of life by pushing boundaries, and in the process, create precious heirlooms to be inherited by future generations.
