Mahalaya: Bridging Purpose and Impact At Mahalaya, we are redefining Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies to create meaningful, measurable impact. Based in Kolkata, we act as a bridge between corporate aspirations and grassroots realities, ensuring that every initiative not only meets compliance mandates but also transforms lives, communities, and ecosystems sustainably. Mahalaya’s journey began on the auspicious day of Mahalaya in 2023, symbolizing new beginnings and empowerment during Durga Puja. Two women, bringing 30 years of cumulative experience in the development sector, connected during their Executive MBA program. What started as a simple project grew into a deeper exploration of India’s social sector challenges, from operational complexities to the untold stories of resilience among vulnerable communities. During their discussions, they identified systemic barriers that held back NGOs and CSOs. Recurring challenges included navigating complex compliance requirements, mobilizing consistent resources, and engaging stakeholders effectively. Many NGOs, despite impactful initiatives, faced roadblocks such as limited access to CSR funding, hurdles with FCRA regulations, and challenges in scaling programs to meet community needs. Inspired to address these gaps, Mahalaya was born as a platform to empower social sector organizations. Its mission is to simplify compliance, enhance fundraising capabilities, and strengthen stakeholder relationships. Mahalaya envisions a thriving ecosystem where NGOs can unlock their full potential, ensuring efficient resource use and sustainable community impact.
