About Make it Zero

The global race to cut emissions to zero is a vital step in addressing climate change, and the DIY sector will rise to the challenge. EDRA/GHIN is recognised as the voice for the global DIY sector. It represents 230 DIY and home improvement companies operating over 35,000 stores in 78 countries, covering the entire spectrum of the industry, from local corner shops to digital players and big box retailers. Results from a survey conducted on EDRA/GHIN members show that Scope 3 emissions, can represent up to 98% of a DIY retailer’s total emissions. These encompass emissions that are not the result of activities from assets owned or controlled by a company but by those that it is indirectly responsible for up and down its value chain. Examples of Scope 3 emissions include those produced by the extraction and transformation of raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, use and end-of-life of products. EDRA/GHIN partnered with Ricardo, the world-renowned strategic, environmental, and engineering consultancy, to create Make it Zero and help the industry identify and reduce scope 3 emissions. The Make it Zero initiative aims to develop clear and consistent methodologies for collecting and measuring Scope 3 emissions data. Members of the Make it Zero Scope 3 Taskforce will implement this information in their own operations and share best practices. Objectives: > Clear and consistent emissions calculation methodologies > Agree on common accounting and reporting standards and reporting platforms > Engage with suppliers to drive action and change across the supply chain
