Founded in 2006, Mama Biashara is a tiny charity, but with an immense footprint, having literally saved the lives of over 100,000 women and girls in Kenya from domestic violence, FGM, and effective slavery. By the provision of micro-grants to setup small businesses over the past 14 years, Kate Copstick has made direct interventions which have transformed lives. Additionally, young girls deprived of education, being sold into early marriage, and forced to undergo barbaric rituals have been helped to relocate to safe places where they can enjoy a far better life.
