About Maritime Academy of Nigeria
The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), located in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, is Nigeria’s premier maritime institution. It is charged with the responsibility of training competent manpower at all levels to serve in the Merchant Navy, seaports, shipyards, pilotage, maritime engineering workshops, and other marine-related sectors. The Academy is listed on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) White List, signifying full compliance with the STCW 1978 Convention, as amended in 2010. This global recognition affirms the Academy’s adherence to international standards in maritime education and certification. MAN consists of three core schools: School of Marine Engineering – focuses on the operation and maintenance of shipboard mechanical and electrical systems. School of Nautical Studies – trains cadets in navigation, seamanship, cargo handling, and marine communication. School of Maritime Studies – specializes in shipping management, logistics, port operations, and maritime economics. The Academy also operates specialized centers, a well-equipped Library/Resource Center, and academic departments to support teaching and research. Administrative functions are managed by the Rectorate, Registry, Bursary, Legal Department, ICT Center, Works and Services, Health Services, and the Research and Statistics Department. To promote discipline, leadership, and regimental values, the Academy maintains a Regimental Unit, staffed by serving Nigerian Naval officers and ratings, supported by Cadet Executives. This unit oversees physical drills, parade training, and character development for cadets. The Maritime Academy of Nigeria remains committed to producing globally competitive maritime professionals through modern facilities, internationally-aligned curricula, and holistic cadet development.
