About Manatua - One Polynesia Cable Consortium
A trans-Polynesian Information Superhighway The Manatua – One Polynesia cable is ground-breaking 20Tbps, 3500km fibre optic cable being built in the South Pacific to connect Samoa, Niue, Rarotonga and Aitutaki in the Cooks Islands and Tahiti and Bora Broa in French Polynesia. The project was established by International Treaty between the Governments of the Cooks Islands, Samoa, Niue & French Polynesia. The Manatua Cable Consortium, comprising OPT in French Polynesia, Avaroa Cable Ltd in the Cooks Islands, Niue Telecom in Niue and the Samoan Submarine Cable Company in Samoa, will build, own and operate the Manatua cable. Co-funders of the project include the French Government’s Agence Française de Dévelopement, the New Zealand Government's Aid Programme, the European Investment Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the Governments of the Cooks Islands, Samoa, Niue and French Polynesia. Manatua will provide the first cable connections into the Cook Islands and Niue. The cable is expected to be ready for service in the first half of 2020.
