It started simply. New York Institute of Technology’s Manhattan Campus hadn’t had an independent student newspaper in years and a few wannabe-journalists wanted to change that. So, in September 2016, 20 strangers met in a ninth-floor classroom and began the unusual journey of creating a print newspaper in the age of the Internet.
Inspired by both the diversity of the city we live in and the diversity amongst ourselves, we called ourselves “Manhattan Globe”, because we knew we had a responsibility to tell a global story.
Half a year later, we’ve become friends (late nights and deadline-induced stress will do that to a group) and our passion for honest, fair reporting hasn’t faltered. We know that there will be many generations of truth-tellers that will sit in this newspaper room after us, but we are proud to say we saw “Manhattan Globe” through its humble beginnings, because this paper saw us through ours.
