For more than 30 years, Mr. Almeida Prado has been working in different fields of business law. He has advised Brazilian and foreign investors in hundreds of M&A and Investment Agreements (VC/PE, IPO, JV), as well as in the negotiation and renegotiation of complex commercial contracts (supply, distribution, transfer of technology, project financing and financial contracts).
For the last 20 years, Mr. Almeida Prado has also been working with domestic and international arbitration. Until December 2020, he headed L.O. Baptista’s Law Firm arbitration practice when it achieved the track record of 380 arbitration cases. He has worked both as counsel and arbitrator in a broad range of disputes (corporate, M&A, construction, energy, financing and complex commercial contracts).
From January 2021 onwards, Mr. Almeida Prado has been primarily working as independent arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations.
Mr. Almeida Prado is member of the Council of the ICC Institute of World Business Law, as well as of the Board of Directors of Lopes Brasil S/A (real estate) and of the Audit Board of São Martinho S/A (sugar and ethanol), both companies listed at the São Paulo Stock Exchange Market (B3 New Market).
He has a PhD from the University of Paris X (2001) and two LLMs in International Law (University of Sao Paulo -1995 - and University of Paris X - 1997). Furthermore, he was a Visiting Researcher at Unidroit (Rome, 1997), at the University of Paris II (Paris, 2009 and 2010), and at the Columbia Law School (New York, in 2017). He is the author of the books “Le hardship dans droit des contrats internationaux”, Paris/Bruxelles, Bruylant, 2003, and “Contrato Internacional de Transferência de Tecnologia”, Sao Paulo, Liv. do Advogado, 1997.
Mr. Almeida Prado is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
