For me, it doesn’t matter if a company is trading profitably or is in a turnaround situation, as I believe, with the right approach and perspective, a transformation is always possible
Typically, I invest in companies with a turnover between £500k-5m with owner-managers wanting to step back from the day-to-day operations of the business, either because they are ready to exit or because they recognise that to achieve their ambitions, they need to do things differently.
Investment can come in the form of a financial cash injection, but in my experience, cash is rarely the solution to stagnant growth.
Instead, it’s a fresh perspective and someone willing to challenge the status quo - and beyond that – someone committed to implementing changes no matter what obstacles come up. To me, this means someone with skin in the game, someone with a vested interest to see the business succeed as much as you, and the capacity, knowledge, and skill to make it happen.
Having successfully grown several multiple-pound businesses during my career, I know just how challenging it is to balance the daily needs of the business while also building foundations for future growth – and how valuable it is to have the right business partner by your side.
Deals can be structured in a variety of ways, including an outright sale of the business, and carrying out the work in exchange for a stake in the business with the option to buy back shares once the transformation is complete.
