The cricket ground and a polo ground which is there at an altitude of 2,250 m were owned by an erstwhile royal family of Patiala. It is the world's highest cricket ground. Chail is also considered as the hiker's paradise. The area is away from the bustling life of the state capital Shimla. In 1891, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala incurred the rage of Lord Kitchener. It led to the restriction of his entry in the Indian summer capital, Shimla. This incensed the Maharaja and he vowed to build a new summer retreat for himself. KAli KA TibbaNearby attraction of the hotel KAli KA Tibba located on the top of the hill named after the Raj Mata's cottage, blossom one can see the looming Choor Chandani pick from here. It's easy to 6 Km trek from the marketplace via the Gura Road. Gurudwara Sahib Gurudwara Sahib built in 1907. Located 1 km above the bazaar on Pandhawa Hill. The Yellow Gurudwara is a small building with a tiny courtyard. The two tower-like structure fitted into the facade on either side of the main entrance. Famed cricket ground The famed cricket ground laid down by the Maharaja of Patiala some say the highest in the world at 7,200 ft - is situated in the cantonment area and as such is out of bounds to civilians. Sadhupul Sadhupul is more of a Picnic Spot, best enjoyed if you have a group with you. You can engage in a "Stone Pelting" competition. This place is in between Chail & Kandaghat. Distance from main Kalka - Shimla highway is 11 KM. The bridge was built in Calcutta in 1904. It is amazing, how in those days this bridge was transported in hills all the way from Calcutta. Maharaja Palace Chail When Bhupinder Singh, Maharaja of Patiala was expelled from Shimla - The Summer Capital of British India, he decided to create his own capital for the warm months. The little village of Chail was perfect. It lay surrounded by magnificent deodar forests, Shimla was in the direct vision and most importantly, Chail at 2226 m was somewhat higher than British controlled Shimla. Today, the Maharaja's creation can be experienced by everyone. And for Himachal Tourism, now the owner of the gracious mansion, every visitor is a Royalty. Here is a resort in the true sense of the word. Buddhist Monastery Buddhist Temple - Buddhist Temple on the way at a place named Dochi near Chail. Beautiful temple of Buddha about half a KM from the main road. It is a peaceful place and ideal for meditation. Temple was build in 2009 and there are statues of Gautam Buddha and Padamasambhav.
