In some cases it may come with a prototype you can "play with". I strongly believe the sooner you are in touch with the solution, the better it will match your initial needs. Sometimes the solution maybe an API integration or other expertise? My contribution can end there...? At this point you will have a clear plan and know exactly what you need to do.
