About A People's History of Medical Marijuana

Introducing A People's History of the Medical Marijuana Movement compiled by Fred Gardner. How did a radical grassroots movement based in San Francisco wind-up making cannabis safe for capital? Gardner provides the facts The Industry doesn't want you to know, and shines a critical light on the single-issue approach to politics. This is a must-read for pot partisans and anyone serious about changing America. About This Material: We use the words cannabis and marijuana almost interchangeably. Cannabis, the Latin word used by botanists and doctors, is more respectable, but marijuana is the word used more commonly by the activists who launched the movement in the late 20th century. Also, it sounds mellower and it was imported from Mexico. Articles written for O'Shaughnessy's, the Journal of Cannabis in Clinical Practice, frame this history. There are also articles written for The Anderson Valley Advertiser and Counterpunch.org, and many pieces not previously published. Some of the articles are PDFs from O'Shaughnessy's print edition; others are from O'S website, BeyondTHC.com. Mistakes have been corrected, when caught, and graphics upgraded, when possible, from black-and-white to color. If you see any proofing errors, please notify editor@beyondthc.com Correspondence is welcome. Fred Gardner is managing editor of O'Shaughnessy's, the Journal of Cannabis in Clinical Practice. He has been a political organizer, an editor at Scientific American, and Public Information Officer for the District Attorney of San Francisco. His latest dispatches will run once a week.
