Markee Developments Overview

Markee Developments designs, builds, and operates affordable rental housing. We bring expertise in placemaking and urban planning, land development and financing, construction management, and operations to this task. We are dedicated to creating cities where everyone can thrive. Cities are the driving force behind 21st-century economies, but a lack of access to housing threatens to upend this dynamic. As rising housing prices have continued to far exceed wage growth, too many cities across Canada have become too expensive for working people. For nearly a generation now, as overall wealth has grown, so has social and economic inequality. Providing access to housing that is stable, affordable, and part of complete, walkable communities, does not solve every barrier to the creation of a world where everyone can flourish — but it is a critical starting point. It’s no secret that Canada’s housing system is broken, and in turn it’s breaking the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our cities. We need to change the way communities are planned, funded, and built. At the same time, to make progress against the climate crisis, we need denser, infill housing in walkable, transit-oriented communities. This will allow for the better use of existing transit, schools, and parks. And at the centre of these changes, we need to build more affordable housing. Adding purpose-built rental housing in a significant way to address the shortage of affordable housing supply is foundational to ensuring that all Canadians can access a stable home that they can afford. And we need to keep it affordable, in perpetuity. Markee will lease land, purchase land, or engage in joint ventures with landowners who are passionate about placemaking, sustainability, and affordable housing, designing deal structures that are specific to each partnership.
