Mark Chelsen opened Mark’s Dancewear in 2002, in the lower level of his wife's dance studio. Before this venture, he was the manager of a trucking company and the father of two boys. The dance world was all very new to him.
The idea to open a dance store came when his wife, a lifelong dancer, had to have multiple surgeries on her feet because of being improperly fit in pointe shoes. He asked the surgeon what could be done to prevent injuries like his wife’s, and then and there, he decided to make it his life’s mission to make sure other girls wouldn’t suffer the same fate.
Mark’s Dancewear is a full-service dancewear store featuring shoes and accessories for jazz, tap, ballroom, show choir, and a robust selection of pointe shoes. Mark devoted himself to learning everything he could about how to fit shoes correctly, and through years of practice, today, he is considered an expert in his field.
