Marviken Smart Energy Cluster is dedicated to fossil free energy production, minimising energy waste and maximising energy utilisation and recovery. The global energy landscape is under rapid transformation. The global urge for smart cities and electrification together with fossil fuels being phased out necessitates new ideas, concepts, technologies and solutions for a successful and sustainable future. Marviken Smart Energy Cluster was founded to actively engage in shaping these necessary ideas, concepts, technologies and solutions. 70% of global energy produced is wasted. Marviken Smart Energy Cluster will shape, innovate and deploy transformative solutions to minimising energy waste and maximise energy utilisation - in industrial scale - by strategically combining industrial operations. Marviken Smart Energy Cluster will also enable and host the Smartest fossil free solutions to energy production that will power the cluster and other energy demanding operations. Marviken is strategically positioned to bring transformative improvements to the Swedish electricity grid but also transformative solutions to bottlenecks for industrial renewal. With several existing large energy users in close proximity and large areas of permitted land attracting new strategic operations adding to the cluster dynamics Marviken has the potential to innovate how energy systems are being built for global inspiration. Marviken has since the project first was planned in late 1950ies been an engine for innovation and engineering breakthroughs as well as an institution for learning and development. Many solutions to complicated challenges has been developed and firstly deployed in Marviken. The proud legacy is now shaping the Smart Energy Cluster that is being built. Marviken provides direct access to the national grid through its own 130 kV substation built in 2017, simplified logistics through its deep-water port, vast energy storage through its 55,000 m3 rock cavern.
