About Materials Physics at SINTEF
In the Materials Physics groups at SINTEF (www.sintef.no) we work to understand fundamental physical and chemical properties of materials. Together with our Norwegian and international partners, we use this understanding to develop and improve processes and materials that meet the needs of tomorrow. With our two main hubs in Trondheim and Oslo, we have close proximity to important innovation centres in Norway. We use several key materials characterization and modelling competencies going all the way down to atomic resolution in combination with material physics understanding in order to achieve this. Some of the techniques we are working with are: * High resolution structural analysis of materials (SEM, TEM, FIB, APT) * Surface analysis (XPS, AES) * Lithography/thin film deposition * Optical characterization * Materials modelling (DFT, MD, Optical modelling, etc.) * Interoperability and ontologies We work towards a wide range of applications: * Structural materials (Light metal alloys, Steel, Concrete) * Materials and devices for production/storage of renewable energy (Silicon solar cells, Hydrogen production, Batteries, BIPV) * Thermoelectric materials * Catalysts * New, functional and safe nanomaterials. * Lighting technology including laser and LED technology
