About Materials As Machines Lab

Our research group at Carleton University focuses on creating materials as machines. Just like photochromatic glass can be considered a machine, as it has a sensing, an actuating part, and a control mechanism; we create machine-like materials systems for various applications. Our aim is to develop innovative technologies based on material science, manufacturing, and mechatronics to improve the quality of life of a variety of populations, such as those that require devices or technologies for assistive living. We design, model, and manufacture these materials systems using existing or custom-made methods such as 3D printing.
