Materials Science and Engineering IITD

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) at IIT Delhi was established in 2018 with the vision of advancing the study and application of materials through cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research. Since its inception, DMSE has grown into a dynamic academic and research community comprising over 20 full-time faculty members and a vibrant student body of more than 100 Ph.D. scholars, 35 M.Tech/M.S. students, and 160 B.Tech students. Our academic offerings include a B.Tech program in Materials Engineering, M.Tech programs in both Materials Engineering and Polymer Science & Technology, along with full-time and part-time Ph.D. programs. Research at DMSE spans a broad spectrum—from metals, ceramics, polymers, and functional materials to computational materials science—addressing critical challenges at the intersection of science, technology, and societal needs. DMSE is home to state-of-the-art research facilities and fosters a collaborative environment where faculty and students work together to push the frontiers of materials innovation. Our department regularly features the achievements of its members, showcases research milestones, and stays actively engaged with industry partners, academic collaborators, and alumni through various outreach initiatives.
