The School of Mathematics and Statistics originated as part of the School of Mathematics and Computer/Information Sciences, established in February 1978 with Prof. M. Venkata Raman as its first dean. On January 22, 2013, it was upgraded to a separate entity. The school currently has 18 faculty members and four adjunct faculty, specializing in various research fields, including Algebra, Analysis, Geometry, Number Theory, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Operations Research.Our faculty maintains strong research collaborations with prestigious institutes in India and internationally, including ICTP (Italy), Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study (USA), Warwick University (UK), Weizmann Institute (Israel), and Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (Israel). Domestically, we collaborate with TIFR, IMSc, ISI, and IISc. We have also signed an MoU with the Indian Statistical Institute to promote mutual visits and joint research.The school has garnered recognition and funding from various agencies. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) selected us under its FIST (Level II) scheme to support research in Cryptology, Modelling & Simulation, and Dynamical Systems. Additionally, the University Grants Commission (UGC) supports us through its COSIST program and Special Assistance Programme (SAP). Our library is a regional resource for the National Board of Higher Mathematics (NBHM), which funds journal subscriptions in Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics.Our teaching philosophy emphasizes preparing students for research careers in Mathematics and Statistics. M.Sc. students receive strong foundational training, enabling them to excel in research fellowship exams and interviews at prestigious Indian institutions. They are also highly sought after in the job market due to the rigorous academic preparation they receive here. Our campus provides a supportive academic environment, making it a privilege for students to study here.
