About Molecular Biomimetics Lab

The Molecular Biomimetics Lab (MBL), founded and led by Dr. S. Mohsen Asghari, is part of the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics (IBB) at the University of Tehran—a center renowned for excellence in advanced biomedical research. MBL is a dynamic interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to the design and application of cutting-edge peptidomimetics for precision medicine and biotechnology. Our primary research focus lies in engineering peptides—such as vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor-binding peptides and derivatives of human endostatin—to develop innovative solutions for cancer therapy, diagnostics, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). We leverage advanced nanomedicine approaches to enhance drug delivery, increase therapeutic longevity, facilitate combination therapies, and enable precision targeting. Beyond translating basic science into clinical and therapeutic advances, MBL also pioneers applied research in aquaculture biotechnology—most notably through the development and commercialization of products for the induction of spawning and growth in fish, directly contributing to the advancement of the aquaculture industry. As a research group led by Dr. S. Mohsen Asghari, MBL is committed to advancing biomolecular discoveries through innovation, collaboration, and leadership—partnering with academic institutions and industry leaders regionally and internationally. ■ Key Areas of Expertise: • Peptidomimetics design for therapy and diagnostics • Cancer and AMD biotherapy • Nanomedicine for targeted drug delivery • Combination and longevity-focused therapeutics • Aquaculture biotechnology: spawning and growth induction We invite students, collaborators, and industry partners to connect with us and explore opportunities to make an impact in human health and sustainable aquaculture.
