About McLarty Scholars Program

The McLarty Scholars program provides young leaders with the opportunity to support, engage with, and learn from leading non-governmental organizations in Washington, D.C. While making their own distinctive and enduring contributions to each organization, scholars also work alongside change-makers around the globe who are advancing progress for women and girls in significant ways. The scholars are high-achieving graduate students or recent graduates from the Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas. They are highly motivated, pursuing an interest in international affairs and women’s empowerment issues. Through the program, they are placed either with Vital Voices or with the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS). Scholars at Vital Voices conduct essential research, monitoring, and evaluation. Their work, which is tailored to each scholar, helps grow the Vital Voices network and improve the organization’s efficacy to empower women around the world. Scholars at Georgetown engage in rigorous research on the role of women in conflict prevention and resolution that helps to inform practitioners and public policy makers. Their research contributes to a growing body of knowledge that continues to inform this enduring mission through subsequent generations.
