MECAL was founded in 1993 as "Marine Engineers Certifying Authority Ltd" by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology & we still maintain close links with the Small Ships Group of the Institution. Since then MECAL has grown to become one of the leading Certifying Authorities, directly authorised by the UK Dept for Transport (Maritime & Coastguard Agency) and recently all Red Ensign Group Flag States, for commercial vessels & workboats up to 24m load line length and for larger vessels under specific delegation. Mecal is well known for its expertise in applying the Workboat code. Accredited to ISO9001-2015 We have a large team of specialist supporting inbuild projects across the globe, we were also the first <24m certifying authority to commercially code a Hybrid vessel and have also become well known for our expertise in autonomous workboats. With over 65% of the vessels held on file being Workboats , we are rapidly becoming the leading specialist within the <24m commercial vessels industry. With ISO9001-2015 accreditation Mecal is known for its high standards of customer service and technical expertise, with a team of specialist and Naval architects on hand for design and stability advise and approval. At our head quarters we have a strong team that are always on hand to support our surveyors and clients, they have a reputation for great customer service and will go above and beyond to ensure the best advice is given.
