About MeDiTwin Project

The Mediterranean Digital Twin Network for Understanding Climate Extremes (MeDiTwin), is an Coordination and Support Actions (CSA) project funded by the EC Horizon programme (#101159723). This groundbreaking project is a testament to the power of collaboration, combining the expertise of European leading partners in AI for Earth Observation with advanced techniques such as cloud computing, physics-guided machine learning, explainable AI, and causality. MeDiTwin is more than a research initiative; it's a step towards understanding climate extremes in the Mediterranean region and get prepared for global challenges posed by climate change. At the core of the project is the developement of the Mediterranean Digital Twin (MDT) through which we will simulate and analyze events caused by climate extremes . A key objective of the project is to enhance the research capacity and international visibility of the National Technical University of Athens' (NTUA) School of Rural, Surveying Engineering & Geo-informatics in the field of Artificial Intelligence for Earth Observation (AI4EO). Through extensive training and mobility programs, the project aims to position the School as a leader in addressing the climate crisis with innovative, data-driven solutions.
