Medway Asthma Self-Help (MASH)

Medway Asthma Self-Help (MASH) is a small charity based in Gillingham, Kent, and for over 20 years we have been helping the people of Medway with information and support for people and families with asthma. All of our services are open to all and free of charge and feedback has shown that we make considerable improvements to the lives of people affected by this serious condition. We work closely with GPs and other health professionals to raise awareness and knowledge of asthma. We offer free access to: A specialist asthma nurse offering 30 minute appointments and continuing support if needed Lung function testing Asthma airborne allergy testing Advice and information on treatment and using inhalers MASH currently has two part-time staff members (nurse and coordinator), five trustees and a small pool of volunteers. We run regular outreach and asthma information stands across Medway and run several popular fundraising events such as pamper evenings and quiz nights. We are involved in initiatives to help people stop smoking, to improve Medway’s air quality and to bring asthma information to students and teachers in local schools and universities.
