Mékong Plus

Mekong Plus is committed to the populations of more than 1000 villages in Vietnam and Cambodia, in the Mekong region. The approach is that of "community development" which is based on participation, consultation and empowerment: Based in the villages, our teams are very attentive to the poorest families. Whether it is on issues of health, education, infrastructure, agriculture or extreme poverty, our teams implement actions with the local population. The approach is always participatory, very open to the requests of the villagers. We encourage everyone to get involved in the project, from design to implementation, not forgetting to cover costs. More than 50% of the costs of the programmes are covered by the local population and local partners; the techniques transferred to the beneficiaries are simple and adapted to their living conditions; the emphasis is placed on village-to-village training so that all activities can be continued and extended without Mekong Plus. The impact of Mekong Plus is visible: increased income, improved health, creation of new stable and rewarding jobs, keeping young people in school, extension of cleaner agriculture and quality products, development of local commerce, etc. In Vietnam, in the districts where we work, extreme poverty has been reduced so significantly, from 30% to 5-10%, that we can gradually reduce our efforts to extend them to 400 new villages.
